Dr. Rajiv Bajekal
The charity is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Rajiv Bajekal to the Board of Trustees. HAPC (UK) Chairman, Derrick Pereira, said that Dr. Bajekal’s appointment will stengthen a very important arm of the charity, which is essential as HAPC goes about implementing its Future Direction plans.
Born in Rourkela, India. Dr. Bajekal’s father worked in Steel industry in Indiaand they therefore moved around to various parts of India. He had a cosmopolitan upbringing and was educated in Rishi Valley School. This was a boarding school run by the Krishnamurthi foundation, founded by the philosopher himself. It is also the reason why he tends to be quite phlegmatic and relaxed!

Dr. Bajekal did his medical schooling in JIPMER, Pondicherry and his MS in Orthopaedics from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He came to the UK in 1992 and worked in Norwich as a basic surgical trainee and on the Royal Free/ RNOH Registrar/Senior Registrar rotation – completing my MCh from Liverpool as an external candidate. He took up a Consultant post with Doncaster/Bassetlaw NHS trust in 1998 but left to take up his current post at Barnet, when his wife (Nitu), who is a Consultant Gynaecologist was appointed to Barnet. He also has two teenage daughters. He takes pride in being a General Orthopaedic and Trauma surgeon although every year his Degenerative Lumbar Spine work increases.
On his appointment to the Board, Dr. Bajekal said that he always felt the need to do organised charity work and working with HELP A POOR CHILD gives him the ideal opportunity to work in an area that he feels strongly about.
HAPC extends a warm welcome to Dr. Bajekal.
